Health Matters

In Alberta, health care is completely free – you don’t even pay a monthly premium. Like elsewhere in Canada, Alberta has a publicly administered and funded health care system that guarantees Albertans receive universal access to medically necessary hospital and health care services. All new and returning Alberta residents must register (link - http://www.health.alberta.ca/health-care-insurance-plan.html) for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) coverage to receive insured hospital and physician services.

Alberta Blue Cross provides supplementary health and dental benefit programs not otherwise covered by the public health care system.

Alberta SouthWest communities fall into two Alberta Health Services zones. Claresholm, Stavely, and a portion of the M.D. of Willow Creek fall into the Calgary Zone. For a description of health services in this zone see Facilities in the Calgary area.

The remainder of the Alberta SouthWest communities fall into the South Zone. For a description of health services in this zone see Facilities in the South area.
