A small town with a big heart
About the area
With rolling prairies to the east and foothills to the west, this farming and ranching town offers more than just a beautiful view that stretches for miles all around. This thriving, picturesque community is proud of its rural traditions and values that arise from lives lived close to the land.
The Town was named for Alexander Stavely Hill, Managing Director of the Oxley Ranching Company which was formed in 1882. With the influx of settlers, the box-car stop and tent-town progressed to the status of a village in 1903 and to a town in 1912.
Although small in numbers, Stavely has earned recognition for its grains and livestock, the beauty of its natural recreational facilities, its thriving sports organizations, rodeo traditions and community spirit. But the thing that Stavelyites are most proud of is the friendliness of the town. The best traditions of the west are deeply rooted in this community, where neighbours are always willing to lend each other a hand and visitors are always welcome.
