Peaks to Prairies EV Charging Network

Peaks to Prairies EV Charging Network

Peaks to Prairies Vehicle Charging Station Network

Started in 2016 and completed in 2019,  three southern Alberta Regional Economic Development Alliances (REDAs) along with the City of Calgary and City of Lethbridge collaborated to develop a regional electric vehicle charging station network. By end of 2019 20 fast charging/Level 2 stations were installed throughout the region. Click here to view the current network map. This network connects communities south of Calgary and compliments an initiative in the East Kootenays, called Accelerate Kootenays, which is deploying 53 charging stations throughout the East and West Kootenays. There is also planned EV charging deployment planned in Montana. The southern Alberta network would provide Level 2 and Level 3 charging along Highways 1, 2, 3, and 22 in the initial phase.

The largest tourism markets for the Southern Region is Calgary and Lethbridge and this electric vehicle charging network is seen as another tourism amenity to help increase economic activity in our communities. Range anxiety is one of the known barriers to greater adoption of electric vehicles and this network would be a big step towards minimizing it.
