Bird Watching

Birds of a Feather

Its abrupt transition from flatland to the height of the Continental Divide makes Alberta SouthWest a rich intermingling of prairie, foothill and mountain ecosystems. The same backyard may be frequented by both blue jays, at the western limit of their range, and Stellar's jays, rarely seen on the eastern side of the Divide.

Best of all, you will see rarer species such as Mountain Bluebird, American White Pelican and Golden Eagle.

Crowsnest Conservation Society provides a regional species checklist prepared by renown ornithologist Peter Sherrington (see Eagle Counting).
