Located in Nanton is The Bomber Command Museum of Canada, once known as the Nanton Lancaster Society Museum. It was established in 1986 to preserve and refurbish Avro Lancaster FM159, one of four Lancasters left worldwide—two flying and two for taxi only.

The town is named for Sir Augustus Nanton who financed farms and ranches. In 1907, freezing town residents robbed a train for coal... than paid for the load! The Visitor Information Centre sits on the former train station grounds.
