Established in 1874 as a North West Mounted Police outpost, Fort Macleod retains its historic roots while embracing the future. Strategically positioned at the junction of Highway 2 (the CANAMEX Corridor) and Highway 3, the town enjoys convenient access to Lethbridge and Calgary.
Did you Know?
The Macleod Gazette, is Alberta oldest operating newspaper and a repeat winner as Canada's best community weekly. Singer Joni Mitchell was also born in Fort Macleod in 1943.
About the Area
Fort Macleod is home to the North West Mounted Police Riding Performance, which first took place in 1876. Now, the event occurs annually and is open to the public.
